The Bathurst Notebook (No. 01) explores the idea of provenance—not simply where we come from, but the places, influences and ambitions that become part of who we are.
Across the cover, a winding river travels through forested hills towards distant mountains, while a solitary waterside cabin suggests both refuge and a place from which to look outward. Trees emerge between the landscape and Bathurst’s strong architectural forms, while branches laden with dark berries cross the composition, introducing another layer of growth, cultivation and abundance.
Set among them is a slender golden sceptre, a quiet symbol of authority and leadership. Rather than dominating the artwork, it becomes something to discover—one element within a larger story of land, inheritance, aspiration and what we choose to build upon them.
In No. 01, Bathurst is rendered in deep navy, midnight blue, forest and olive green, warm ivory and muted gold. The darker palette gives the landscape a particularly assured character, while sweeping curves, intersecting lines and geometric forms break the scene into unexpected fragments. From a distance, the composition reads almost as abstraction. Look longer and the river, mountains, trees, botanicals, dwelling and symbolic details gradually reveal themselves.
Inside, 118 ruled pages provide space for meeting notes, plans, reflections and ideas still taking shape. The metal spiral binding allows the notebook to lie flat while writing, while an interior document pocket keeps loose notes, receipts and other small papers neatly contained.
