The Crescendo Flourish Journal (No. 02) pairs the expressive energy of the Crescendo Collection with a quiet field of pale lavender-grey and a simple message of forward movement: ONWARD & UPWARD.
Across the upper portion of the cover, sweeping forms move into one another in a richly layered composition of midnight blue, black, ivory and warm ochre-gold. Broad petal-like forms open, curl and overlap across the surface, while sculptural calabashes and decorative vessels emerge among spirals, botanical details and intricate hand-drawn markings.
That sense of discovery is central to Crescendo. The artwork draws on the sculptural character of calabashes and the expressive tradition of their decoration, allowing recognizable objects to merge into petals, curves and abstract forms. One shape seems to become another: a vessel disappears into a sweeping curve, a botanical stem emerges between larger forms, and small markings reveal themselves only on closer inspection.
A narrow ochre-gold rule brings the artwork to a precise close before giving way to an expansive field of pale lavender-grey below. The contrast gives the cover an unusual balance — exuberance above, space below — creating a visual pause before what comes next.
Near the lower edge, ONWARD & UPWARD appears in restrained ochre lettering.
The sentiment is deliberately simple. It does not demand a grand reinvention or suggest that progress always happens in dramatic leaps. It simply points in a direction: forward, higher, further.
