The Crescendo Flourish Journal (No. 03) pairs the expressive energy of the Crescendo Collection with an expansive cream field and a simple message of forward movement: ONWARD & UPWARD.
Across the upper portion of the cover, sweeping forms move into one another in a richly layered composition of burgundy, orange, fuchsia, soft pink, cream and warm gold. At first glance, the artwork feels almost floral, with broad petal-like forms opening, curling and overlapping across the surface. Look more closely and sculptural calabashes and decorative vessels begin to emerge among spirals, botanical details and intricate hand-drawn markings.
That sense of discovery is central to Crescendo. The artwork draws on the sculptural character of calabashes and the expressive tradition of their decoration, allowing recognizable objects to merge into petals, curves and abstract forms. Nothing is rigidly separated; one shape seems to become another, giving the composition its distinctive sense of movement and abundance.
A narrow burgundy-fuchsia rule brings the artwork to a precise close before giving way to a generous field of warm cream below. The contrast changes the character of the design: the energy remains, but there is space around it — a visual pause before what comes next.
Near the lower edge, ONWARD & UPWARD appears in restrained burgundy lettering.
The sentiment is deliberately simple. It does not ask for a grand reinvention or pretend that progress always happens in dramatic leaps. It simply points in a direction: forward, higher, further.
